Chiropractic Louisville KY Shockwave On Patients

A Different Approach to Stubborn Muscle, Tendon & Joint Pain

If you have been dealing with plantar fasciitis, knee pain, elbow pain, shoulder pain or a nagging sports injury that just does not seem to completely go away, shockwave therapy may be another treatment option worth considering.

At St. Matthews Chiropractic, we use Chattanooga Radial Pressure Wave technology in Louisville KY, often referred to as shockwave therapy, to treat certain muscle, tendon and soft-tissue conditions.

Shockwave therapy is non-invasive and does not involve injections or surgery. Treatment is performed directly over the area of concern using a handheld applicator that delivers controlled pressure waves into the tissues.

Our chiropractors may use shockwave therapy by itself or combine it with chiropractic care, exercises, mobility work or other therapies depending on what is causing your pain.

What Does Shockwave Therapy Do?

Radial pressure wave therapy delivers mechanical energy into the targeted area. Chattanooga's RPW technology is designed to help reduce muscle pain and soreness, temporarily increase local blood flow and activate connective tissue as part of the healing and recovery process.

For many patients, the goal is simple: address the irritated tissue itself while also working on the movement, strength or mechanical problem that may be contributing to the injury.

Shockwave therapy is frequently considered for tendon and soft-tissue problems that have become persistent or keep returning.

What Can Shockwave Therapy Be Used For in Louisville KY?

You do not need to know the name of your exact injury before coming into our office. Many patients simply know that something hurts when they walk, exercise, lift, golf or play a sport.

Depending on your examination and diagnosis, shockwave therapy may be considered for conditions such as:

  • Plantar fasciitis and heel pain
  • Tennis elbow and golfer's elbow
  • Knee pain, including certain tendon-related and kneecap pain conditions
  • Shoulder pain and certain rotator cuff tendon problems
  • Achilles tendon pain
  • Hip and IT band-related pain
  • Muscle and myofascial trigger points
  • Tendon pain and overuse injuries
  • Sports injuries
  • Golf injuries
  • Gym and weightlifting injuries
  • Persistent soft-tissue pain that has not responded as expected to other conservative care

Not every type of knee, shoulder, elbow or foot pain is appropriate for shockwave therapy, which is why we evaluate the problem before recommending treatment.

Shockwave Therapy for Plantar Fasciitis & Heel Pain

One of the most common reasons people search for shockwave therapy is plantar fasciitis.

If getting out of bed in the morning causes sharp heel pain, or your foot hurts after walking, standing, running or exercising, irritation of the plantar fascia may be part of the problem.

Radial pressure wave therapy is specifically used for plantar fasciitis and heel pain and may be considered when symptoms have become persistent.

Our chiropractors can also evaluate the ankle, calf, foot mechanics and lower extremity to determine whether another issue may be contributing to your heel pain.

Knee Pain & Sports Injuries

Knee pain does not always mean that something is seriously damaged inside the joint.

Running, squatting, lunging, CrossFit, pickleball, tennis, golf and other activities can place repeated stress on the muscles and tendons around the knee.

Shockwave therapy may be appropriate for certain types of tendon-related knee pain and pain around the kneecap. The Chattanooga RPW system specifically includes retropatellar pain among its treatment indications.

We may combine treatment with targeted strengthening and mobility exercises when appropriate so that we are addressing both the painful tissue and the reason it became irritated.

Tennis Elbow, Golfer's Elbow & Golf Injuries

You do not have to play tennis to develop tennis elbow.

Repetitive gripping, lifting, weight training, computer work and sports can all irritate the tendons around the elbow.

The same is true for golfer's elbow, which can develop from repeated stress during golf, strength training or other activities.

Shockwave therapy can be used for certain tendon insertion disorders around the elbow, including tennis elbow.

For golfers, we also look beyond the painful area. Shoulder mobility, thoracic rotation, hip movement and swing mechanics can all place additional stress on the elbow and other tissues.

Shoulder Pain & Gym Injuries

Shoulder pain is extremely common in people who lift weights, play recreational sports or repeatedly work overhead.

Depending on the cause of the pain, radial pressure wave therapy may be used for certain chronic shoulder and tendon conditions. Chattanooga specifically identifies calcific supraspinatus tendon conditions and chronic shoulder painamong applications for its RPW system.

Shockwave is not appropriate for every shoulder problem, so an examination is important before treatment begins.

Do I Have to Receive Chiropractic Adjustments?

No.

Shockwave therapy can be provided as a stand-alone therapy when clinically appropriate.

Some patients come to St. Matthews Chiropractic specifically because they are looking for shockwave therapy for plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, a golf injury or another sports-related condition.

Other patients benefit from combining shockwave therapy with chiropractic care, rehabilitation exercises or another therapy offered in our office.

Your chiropractor will discuss what makes sense for your particular condition and goals.

How Many Shockwave Treatments Will I Need?

There is no single treatment plan that is right for everyone.

The number and frequency of treatments can depend on factors such as:

  • The condition being treated
  • How long you have had the problem
  • The severity and location of your symptoms
  • Your activity level
  • Your response to treatment
  • Other injuries or contributing factors

We offer shockwave treatment packages when appropriate, but a package and treatment schedule are recommended only after an individual evaluation.

Every patient is different, and purchasing a package does not mean every patient receives the same care or the same number of treatments.

Your chiropractor will determine an appropriate treatment plan based on your examination, condition, and response to care.

Is Shockwave Therapy Right for Me?

Shockwave therapy can be a useful conservative option for certain muscle and tendon problems, but it is not a treatment for every type of pain.

If you have been searching for help with plantar fasciitis, heel pain, knee pain, tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, shoulder pain, a golf injury or a gym injury, we can evaluate the problem and help determine whether shockwave therapy makes sense for you.
